On January 12, 2012, the band announced via their Twitter feed that they would be recording the following week in Nashville. On October 14, 2011, The Gaslight Anthem announced that their last show before going into the studio to record their new album would be on December 9 at the Asbury Park Convention Hall. They stated that they were sorry to leave their friends at SideOneDummy, but felt that the change was necessary for their musical career. On October 6, 2011, The Gaslight Anthem announced via Facebook that they had officially signed with Mercury Records. During this time, Fallon was also working with good friend Ian Perkins, putting the finishing touches on their side project, The Horrible Crowes. Fallon stated that the band's next record will sound closer to their breakthrough record, The '59 Sound, rather than American Slang. In the same interview Fallon said only one song was finished so far, referring to "Biloxi Parish" which they performed on stage at Pinkpop 2011 as well as Rock Am Ring. However, prior to playing on Pinkpop in June 2011, Fallon stated that they had just started working on the new album and that it wouldn't be released for at least a few months. Subsequently, Fallon stated on his blog that the band would start writing their record in January 2011. In 2010 they appeared on the main stage at the Reading and Leeds festivals in the UK along with Arcade Fire, The Libertines and Modest Mouse.Īs of July 2010, Fallon said he was already working on new material for a fourth album. On January 30, 2009, they appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, again playing "The '59 Sound." In Fall 2008, the band toured with Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, and Thrice. On Augthey became the first band to ever appear on the cover of Kerrang! magazine without the publication having previously written a single word about them. It was produced by Ted Hutt, who has produced albums for The Bouncing Souls, Flogging Molly, and MxPx. The album debuted at #70 on the Billboard top 200. Their second full-length, The '59 Sound, was released on Augon Side One Dummy Records. The Gaslight Anthem's second release, a 4-song EP entitled Señor and the Queen, was released on January 29th, 2008 by Sabot Productions. The band released its first LP, Sink or Swim, in 2007 through XOXO Records, and toured with many reputable bands, including Against Me!, The Draft, Dead to Me, and Fake Problems. Representative of such views, one critic wrote, "The Gaslight Anthem are like something out of speculative fiction: this is what pop music would be if Springsteen hadn't listened to his producer, let the Ramones record 'Hungry Heart,' and launched the C.B.G.B.'ers into megastardom." The band has described their sound as "Bruce Springsteen singing for a Cure cover band, with a tinge more aggression." The group's fondness for Springsteen, a significant influence on their music, is celebrated by fans and critics alike. The Gaslight Anthem's music embraces many elements of blues, classic rock, and punk rock. They were described by Kerrang! magazine as "the best new band you'll hear in 2008." The lineup consists of Brian Fallon (vocals and guitar), Alex Levine (bass), Benny Horowitz (drums), and Alex Rosamilia (guitar).
